The AD Home Design Show has officially opened – and we had the pleasure of attending DIFFA’s DINING BY DESIGN Cocktails by Design Party last night at Pier 94. The DINING BY DESIGN space consists of a series of ‘dining’ vignettes; each by a different designer or manufacturer. Ralph Lauren was, well, predictable - and one has to question Cindy Crawford’s debut into design. But the Swarovski/Rockwell collaboration never seems to disappoint - just look at the Oscars for further proof. In keeping with the “movie” theme, Rockwell Group’s 2010 DIFFA Dining by Design environment was complete with a Swarovski crystal curtain that serves as “an ode to the signature piece of David Rockwell’s design for the 2009 and 2010 Academy Awards ceremonies,” along with Audrey Hepburn on a big screen and some classic Eames plastic molded chairs.

We had a drink (or a few) with our friends at Novità Communications and d’Apostrophe, while we discussed the merits of belgian waffles and Belgian fries - in the context of the Belgian design scene, of course, and fortunately ran into friends from B&B Italia, Beast Social, and MMPI. It’s amazing how small the NYC design community can seem at time.

The AD Home Design Show will be up all weekend - along with DIFFA’s DINING BY DESIGN. So if you missed last night’s cocktail reception, there’s still time. Also check out the Water Drop Curtain, the dramatic entryway into DIFFA’s space.
