Apartment Therapy Meetup with Amy Helfand
Posted by Jenny Rector
Overcoming the challenge of getting the Designer Pages team out of the office, four of us (including co-founder and CEO Jacob Slevin and myself) headed to the last night’s Apartment Therapy Meetup. Although we were a bit late, we caught the majority of Brooklyn designer Amy Helfand’s discussion with Maxwell (Apartment Therapy).
Known for her brightly colored and bold patterned rugs, Amy’s work is something of a crossover between design and art. It’s meant to be functional – and people don’t always get that. ‘People often ask me, “Can I walk on this?”’ Amy’s response: “Yea, it’s a rug!”
’She described that her process of working involves different mediums and results in different forms of art. She works in sculpture, drawing, tracing and photography - all of which influence and lead to her rug designs. We got a sneak preview of her most recent prints that are currently being translated into rugs and will be debuted at ICFF this Spring. Get excited.
Next up: We’ll be attending ‘Juergen Mayer H. in conversation with Andres Lepik’ tomorrow night - and will of course share with you the winner of Architizer’s Competition Competition 2010. Stay tuned.
