Happy New Year to all! Someone recently asked Designer Pages what our New Year’s resolution is. To which we replied: “To bring our loyal members of IDNY even better speakers and venues in 2010.” This month’s Meetup is definitely going to be one for the history books. We will be hosting this Thursday’s event at Heller, Inc’s showroom on Fifth Ave. Known for such products as the Capitello chair, reminance of ancient Greek times to the funky, modern design of the Calla stacking chair, Heller offers a wide variety of seating arrangements.

This month we have a special treat in store for you. Headlining our Design presentations is the amazingly talented Massimo Vignelli, Co-Founder of Vignelli Associates. In 1971, when Heller turned its attention to furniture design, Vignelli designed Heller’s first product collection with a line of stacking dinnerware. This line not only won a “Compasso d’Oro award in Italy, it is included in the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent design collection” here in New York City. Vignelli has also worked with noted manufacturers such as The Knoll Group, BK Italia and Knoll, just to name a few. Alan Heller and Barbara Blue, founders of Heller and ErgoErgo will present their “revolutionary seating concept” that works similarly to an exercise ball, but more comfy! I can personally attest to its’ comfort, as I spent a lot of time on this chair taking a break from perusing the products in the Baltimore Convention Center during NeoConEast, this past October. Zachary Feltoon, Co-Founder of David Zachary, “a contemporary product design house specializing in domestic interior products,” will also share with us a few eco-friendly designs.

As always, we would like to thank Abita beer and Veev for sponsoring this event, again. I look forward to seeing you Thursday, 6:30pm. Please RSVP soon, as you will be asked to check-in with security at the lobby. Heller is located at 149 Fifth Avenue, 3rd floor. Bring your photo ID and show up early to avoid waiting in line! Check out pictures and video’s from Chris Graham and Uhuru Design from last month’s event at Knoll. See you soon!
