IDNY at Duravit NYC, November 19, 2009
Posted by Kanaan Gennerette Oliver
Thursday the designer pages office was buzzing with IDNY meetup excitement. This month we hosted the event at Duravit NYC on Madison ave. Duravit is one of the leading manufacturers of bathroom ceramic fixtures and furniture. So imagine what the showroom looked like? Bathtub heaven! We had the privilege to hear design talks from Todd Schliemann of Polshek Partnership, lead architect of The Standard Hotel. He gave a very compelling (and funny!) presentation about the backstory of the hotel. Drew Valles of Duravit presented PuraVida, Duravit’s newest collection, adding a more “delicate and feminine touch” to the bathroom. And Shawn Brown, design director of NY Projects, an international art advisory and production firm, introduced new products from Seoul Design.

Abita beer was so gracious to sponsor this event. The Purple Haze is my favorite, and has a much-wanted kick toward the end of the sip. Veev also made a donation to our event. We made, what we like to call, the DP special: muttled strawberries and mint with a splash of tonic and a dash of lime juice. Oh yea, it’s a real thing! A huge thank you for your yummy (and oh so so tasty!) donation.
If you missed this event, well shame on you! However, I encourage you to view our coverage with the following Todd Schliemann and Shawn Brown videos. Unfortunately Drew’s footage was unable to be retrieved… our extreme apologizes. Also, check out our neeeeew flickr gallery, with pictures from not only Thursday’s event but even more fun imagery of the DP team, including photos #NeoConEast and more! Next month, we are thrilled to host our INDY Meetup at the Knoll showroom on 9th Ave. and 16th Street. I look forward to seeing you there! Until then, happy Thanksgiving.
